Chris Griffith (49)
B Eng (Mining) Hons, Pr Eng

Appointed a director and chief executive in September 2012.

Chris was appointed chief executive officer to Anglo American Platinum Limited on 1 September 2012. He previously served on the board of Kumba since 1 July 2008 as the chief executive officer. He was previously the executive head of joint ventures for Anglo American Platinum Limited. Chris serves as a non-executive director on the board of Exxaro Resources Limited and is also a director of Anglo American South Africa Limited. He has over 19 years of mine management experience and was previously general manager of Anglo American Platinum’s Amandelbult Platinum mine and Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum mine.

Bongani Nqwababa (48)
BAcc (Honours), CA(Z), MBA

Appointed a director in January 2009.

Appointed a director in January 2009. Bongani joined Anglo American Platinum Limited as finance director in January 2009. He is the former finance director of Eskom Holdings Limited. Prior to joining Eskom, he served as treasurer and chief financial officer of Shell Southern Africa. Bongani is currently a non-executive director of Old Mutual plc and chairman of the South African Revenue Service Audit Committee. He trained as an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.


Andrew Hinkly (50)
BSc (Engineering), MBA

Appointed as executive head of marketing in January 2012.

Andrew joined Anglo American plc in 2008 as group head: procurement and supply chain after working for the Ford Motor Company for 20 years, during which time he obtained extensive global experience in finance, purchasing, strategy and new market development. He is currently executive head: commercial and a director of subsidiaries of the Anglo American Platinum Group.

Pieter Louw (54)
BSc (Mining Engineering)

Appointed as executive head: mining in September 2007.

Pieter was appointed executive head: mining at Anglo American Platinum Limited on 1 September 2007. He is an experienced engineer, manager and director in the mining field, having served in various capacities in the gold, iron ore, coal and base metals industries. He has worked in both surface and underground mining operations in South Africa, Zambia and South America.

Seara Macheli-Mkhabela (43)

Appointed as head: corporate affairs in July 2014.

Appointed as Head of Corporate Affairs on 1 July 2014. Previously, Seara was Group Executive Director for Corporate Affairs at South African electronics and telecommunications company Altron. A lawyer by profession, with a specific interest and training in the protection of intellectual property, she has 16 years’ experience at executive corporate level which includes working for multinational companies. At present she is a non-executive ;director of Outotec, a Finnish Technology Company . She has also served on the boards of the SA French Chamber of Commerce and Industries, World Culture Forum, the DTI’s Companies and Intellectual Property and Registration Office, and the Manufacturing Circle of South Africa.

Lorato Mogaki (45)
BA (Law), Masters Dip (Human Resources Management), MBA

Appointed as executive head: human resources in June 2013.

Lorato joined Anglo American Platinum Limited in 2005 as Group manager: people development and was later appointed as head of human resources development and transformation. Prior to that Lorato was a training and development general manager in the post and telecommunication sector. She also sits on the board of the Mining Qualifications Authority.

July Ndlovu (49)
BSc (Honours), MBL, CSEP, BLP

Appointed as executive head: process in September 2007.

July was previously employed by Anglo American subsidiaries in Zimbabwe, where he held senior managerial positions in metallurgical operations and technical services. In 2001, he transferred to Anglo American Platinum Limited, where he was first appointed business manager of the Polokwane Smelter, then head: process technology. He became executive head: process in September 2007.

Indresen Pillay (43)
BSc (QS)

Appointed as executive head: projects in March 2014.

Indresen joined Anglo American Platinum in 2014 as Executive Head: Projects after working for AECOM an EPCM and AE company as CE for Africa. He has 20 years of extensive international experience in project management, cost management, procurement on complex building, infrastructure and industrial projects. He is a director of Anglo American Platinum subsidiaries.

Vishnu Pillay (57)
BSc, MSc

Appointed as executive head: joint ventures in January 2011

Vishnu joined Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats) in January 2011 as executive head of the Company’s joint-venture operations. Before joining he was executive vice-president: South African Operations for Gold Fields Limited and, prior to that, was vice-president and head of operations at Driefontein Gold Mine. His 25 years at Gold Fields were interrupted by a brief period with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, where he was director of mining technology and group executive for institutional planning and operations.

Dean Pelser (46)
BSc (Min Eng) Hons

Appointed as executive head: safety, health & environment in February 2013.

Dean has an extensive background in the Mining Industry spanning some 26 years in the Gold, Coal and PGM mining industry. He joined Anglo American Platinum in 1999 and was appointed as a Director of RPM shortly thereafter. His experience in Anglo American Platinum Ltd. includes operational and strategic management having held roles of General Manager at Mogalakwena Mine, Divisional Director: Eastern Limb, General Programme Manager: Eastern Limb Development and most recently Head of Infrastructure and SD.

His knowledge of management, strategic planning and large scale project programme delivery will continue to add value to the company. He is also the Chairman of Lebalelo Water User Association, Joint Water Forum and serves on the Board of Lepelle Northern Water.

Gordon Smith (56)
BSc Eng (mining); MSc Eng; MBA; PhD

Appointed as executive head: technical in September 2013.

Gordon has 34 years minerals industry experience across precious metal, base metal, ferrous metals, chrome, diamond and semi-precious stone, and coal operations. During this period, Gordon has held a range of technical, managerial and executive positions with Rio Tinto Zimbabwe, Falcon Mines plc, the Chamber of Mines Research Organisation, CSIR - Mining Technology, Snowden Mining Industry Consultants and Metora Mineral Resources prior to joining Anglo American Platinum in 2003 as General Manager Planning.  Subsequent appointments were as Head of Strategic Business Planning, Head of Mineral Resource Management and now Executive Head: Technical.  Gordon is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa, a Fellow and Office Bearer of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, a Fellow of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa, and a member of the South African National Institute of Rock Engineering.
